Renovating in the centre of Athens is always an opportunity to reveal the rich history of buildings.
Such is the case of these two small flats, nested in a quiet street in Plaka. The old smaller rooms are demolished in favour of an open plan layout. The traces of the old walls are preserved and meticulously filled with marble slats. A custom, modern terrazzo is inspired by the antique one. Reject marble pieces were used for the new terrazzo, giving new life to material that would have been wasted.
New and old details sit side by side and complement each other.
